Privacy Policy for What the Pieces Know
This Privacy Policy explains how What the Pieces Know (“the app”) handles information. The app is a narrative image-puzzle anthology for iPhone. Please read this policy carefully.
1. Developer and contact
The app is developed by independent developer Emre Karakaya.

2. No account requirement
- The app does not require an account, login, or registration.
- The app does not ask for a name, phone number, or email address in order to play.
- Email is received only when you voluntarily contact support.
3. Local game data
Chapter progress, puzzle state, hint usage, and preferences are stored locally on your device. This local data is used to restore your progress and settings when you return to the app.
The developer does not operate a server that receives this gameplay save data. This policy does not claim iCloud synchronization of gameplay saves.
You can delete local progress using the in-app reset control, or by deleting the app from your device.
4. Advertising
The app uses Google Mobile Ads / AdMob to show:
- banner advertisements,
- selected interstitial advertisements, and
- optional rewarded advertisements used to authorize an additional hint.
Google Mobile Ads may process information such as:
- IP address, including approximate or general location derived from it,
- device identifiers, which may include advertising identifiers or app/developer-bounded identifiers where permitted,
- advertising data, including ads shown,
- app and advertising interactions,
- performance information, and
- crash and diagnostic information.
Exact processing depends on your region, device settings, and consent choices. The developer does not sell personal information.

Even when advertising is limited, non-personalized, or restricted by your choices, Google Mobile Ads may still process certain technical or advertising-related data. This policy does not claim that non-personalized or limited ads collect no data.
5. Consent and privacy choices
Where required, Google User Messaging Platform (UMP) may show region-appropriate privacy messages. Depending on your location and applicable law, you may be able to consent, decline, or manage advertising choices.
The app checks whether advertising requests are allowed before requesting ads. Where required, you may reopen privacy options from the app’s Settings. You may also contact support for help with privacy choices.
Consent revocation
If you previously consented to personalized or other advertising processing where such consent applies, you may withdraw that consent at any time through the privacy options available in the app (where provided) or by contacting support. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal. Declining or withdrawing consent does not remove access to the core game.
Device-level advertising and tracking controls in iOS Settings may also affect how advertising identifiers are available. Consent frameworks such as UMP and Apple App Tracking Transparency serve different purposes and do not replace each other.
6. App Tracking Transparency
On iOS, Apple’s App Tracking Transparency (ATT) permission request may appear where tracking permission is applicable. Declining tracking does not prevent access to the game. The app should continue to function with restricted or non-personalized advertising where available.
You can change iOS tracking permissions later in system Settings. ATT consent does not override GDPR or other UMP consent requirements that may apply in your region.
7. Analytics and crash reporting
The app currently does not use a separate developer-operated analytics or crash-reporting service. Google Mobile Ads may process advertising-related performance and diagnostic data as described above. This Privacy Policy will be updated before any additional analytics or crash-reporting service is enabled.
8. Data retention and deletion
- Local game data remains on your device until you reset progress in the app or delete the app.
- Support emails you voluntarily send are kept only as long as reasonably needed to answer your request and maintain necessary records.
- Advertising data is processed and retained under Google’s applicable terms and policies.
You may request deletion of correspondence held by the developer by emailing whatthepiecesknow.support@gmail.com. The developer cannot directly erase data independently controlled by Apple or Google, but can help direct you to their privacy tools and settings.
9. Children
The app is not designed as a child-directed service. The developer does not knowingly request personal information from children. Parents or guardians who have concerns may contact support at the email address below.
10. International processing
Third-party providers such as Google may process information in countries other than your country of residence, subject to their safeguards and applicable law.
11. Changes
This Privacy Policy may be updated when features, SDKs, or legal requirements change. When that happens, the effective or last-updated date at the top of this page will be revised.
